Dear Riversdale Community,
We express our deepest sympathies for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her dedication to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to her other realms and territories is unparalleled and we thank her for her service.
Our school will observe the mourning period whilst continuing to support our pupils, families and staff. Unless otherwise stated, please assume any activities and events we have scheduled will continue as planned. We will observe the national bank holiday scheduled on 19th September 2022 for Her Majesty’s funeral, which means schools will be closed that day, but outside of this, school hours will continue as normal.
Article 10: I have the right to see my family if they live in another country
Article 10 of the UNCRC says children and young people should be able to stay in contact with and visit their parents, even if they live in different countries. It also says children and young people should be able to live with their parents if possible and talks about the ways in which States should make this happen.
In particular, it says that:
children and young people should be able to enter countries to see one or both of their parents, either permanently or as a visitor,
children and young people should be able to enter and leave countries in order to see a parent, and a parent should be able to enter and leave a country in order to see them, and
children and young people should always be able to enter and leave their own country.
